The relationship between a physician and patient is broken down by the unnecessary intrusion of insurance companies. They only increase the layers of disconnect between a physician and their patient. Direct Family Medicine Care rebuilds the relationship a person should have with their general physician. It looks a lot like what medicine used to be.
We do not bill any insurance. However, many outside services such as lab work and imaging may be covered by your insurance. We may be able to provide superbills for some services that are covered by insurance; however, we cannot guarantee reimbursement and do not have the resources to negotiate with your insurance company. We will sign your completed insurance forms.
Your Doctor won't change. It's his family's practice. You will be able to contact the doctor directly, no phone trees. We will extend grace first. We will extend trust first. Your visits will not be cut short by busy schedules. If you need 15 minutes, we have 15 minutes. If you need an hour, we can give you an hour.
An agreement that bills monthly, and is built on one thing, protecting patient's autonomy. We ask that you commit to us for three (3) months since we are willing to commit to your care and need time to get you established. Your quality of life matters to us, and it is impossible to quickly solve health issues that took a lifetime to create.
Patients have direct access to Dr. Dalton via text, voice, visits, at a flat rate per month. It's really that simple. Any cost incurred for treatments will be past directly on at the cost incurred. Otherwise, welcome to what a relationship with a physician, unhindered by insurance and corporate medicine, is supposed to look like.
Osteopathic Medicine, founded in 1874, is an approach to medicine now increasingly supported by some of the most sophisticated research and high-resolution imaging techniques on the planet, that embraces the concept of the unity of the living organisms's structure (anatomy) and function (physiology). The Osteopathic Philosophy emphasizes the following principles:
1. The human body is a dynamic unit of function.
2. The body possesses self-regulatory mechanisms that are self-healing in nature.
3. Structure and function are interrelated at all levels.
4. Rational treatment is based on these principles.
The Osteopathic Philosophy, deceptively simple in its presentation, forms the basis for osteopathic medicine's distinctive approach to health care. The philosophy acts as a unifying set of ideas for the organization and application of scientific knowledge to patient care. Through the philosophy, this knowledge is organized in relation to all aspects of health (physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual). A patient-centered focus, using health-oriented principles of patient care and unique skills, including hands-on manual diagnosis and treatment, guide the application of that knowledge. These concepts form the foundation for practicing Osteopathic Medicine.

"It is the object of a physician to find health, anyone can find disease"
Andrew Taylor Still M.D., D.O.
My role as an Osteopathic physician is to help you find this health and unleash the body’s natural healing potential by removing any obstruction to its normal physiologic processes.
Human beings are not suffering from a deficiency of pharmaceutical medications. Too often, they find themselves taking too many medications, brought about by a prescribing cascade. A prescribing cascade happens when medications are prescribed to offset side effects of previous medication prescriptions. The interaction of these medications can often result in worsening debility than had a person not been on medications at all. It is my objective to get patient's off as many medications as possible in a methodical and safe manner, over an appropriate period of time. Your quality of life is my priority.
People don't have to suffer. Cranial Osteopathy is a fundamentally different approach to the treatment of Chronic Migraine. What do you have to gain, except your life back. 100% of the people I have taken care of with chronic migraines has some form of trauma that brings them on, physical, sexual, chemical, emotional, or spiritual. Ignoring this reality and treating it as a diagnosis, instead of a
Chronic Pain is complicated, but it isn't because you aren't taking enough pain medications or haven't had enough surgeries. The primary purpose of a treatment plan for chronic pain has to be the return to the highest degree of function possible. Osteopathic Manipulation, in combination with appropriate chronic disease treatment, can be an extremely effective alternative to the usual chronic pain life holding pattern.
"Wow, sounds like she got her bell rung."
The words of a non-physician to describe what his wife felt when she put her hands gently on the head of a 15 year old girl who had fallen off the monkey bars. She had been out of school for two weeks, until she found an Osteopath. Cranial Osteopathy gives me the skill and training to silence the bell, without medications, but through physical touch.
Issues with ambulation, balance, dizziness, scoliosis, etc can be quite debilitating. The training that I have as a DO gives me an ability to look at these conditions differently. It allows me to treat them myself instead of writing referrals to physical therapists or specialists. The difference in a person's life can be significant when properly treated with Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment or OMT for these conditions.
Sometimes, injuries happen easier because of distortions in the structure and function of a human body. Constantly rolling ankles is an indication of this. Struggling to get a curveball pitch to work but a slider works exceptionally well can be an indicator of this. If your person taking care of you for sports injuries or treatments doesn't recognize this, you may be asking the wrong person. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are two superb examples. One is/was clearly treated by an Osteopath. One was stiff and had neck injuries that ended his career. If this peeks your interest, stop by to discuss further.
A schools sports physical, completed by a physician, not in a hurry. At last count, the rate of discovery of a significant cardiac finding in high school and college sports physicals was about 1 in every 30 evaluations. One was a high school athlete with a cardiac murmur so pronounced, I heard it immediately upon putting the stethoscope on his chest. He would get dizzy while playing. Wanna see what happens to a running back who gets dizzy from loss of blood flow to his brain because of a lazy sports physical? Golf, volleyball, etc, that's fine but a football running back? The consequences can be catastrophic, or deadly. No child will be turned away for inability of the parents to pay. Otherwise, requested fee would be$50
Our healthcare situation in this country has gotten pretty impersonal, rushed, etc. It's leaving people in a rut of undiagnosed or wildly inappropriately treated disease states. Stop in and bring all the stuff, or bring yourself if you'd like as much time as you require, with undivided attention. If you leave me stumped, well done. If you find yourself frustrated or having gained nothing, it's free. If it is beneficial, it's $450, and includes the first three months of membership with the practice.
A lot like the service above, but sometimes it's just a quick review and evaluation. The fee is negotiable depending on the time/skill required of me.
Jen, my wife is often found at the "reception" area. My son Tim is a brilliant pre-medical student who is often found working on records and computer issues here in the office or making sure we all get a chance to eat lunch. We have a skilled nurse who is excited to help bring new therapies to our patients.
Steven J. Dalton D.O. and his wife Jennifer are lifelong Nevadans. He is veteran of the US Army and lives Northern Nevada. The family is a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Parish in Reno, NV where they continue their journey to and now within Roman Catholicism. They did not start that way but know this is where God has lead them.
He received his Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) in 2013 from Benedictine University. He received his Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) in 2015 from Touro University Nevada in Henderson, NV. He completed his residency in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulation with Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson, Michigan from 2016 through 2019.
Dr Dalton continues to work as a concierge family physician and de facto COVID doctor out of his clinic in Reno, NV. In the first three years of the COVID global pandemic, he and his team have taken care of thousands of people in his office with monoclonal anti-body therapy, oxygen, prayer, and whatever else was required. He also worked as a COVID Hospitalist with ~800 inpatient encounters at Nyack, NY during April and early May of 2020 and again at El Paso TX during November and December of 2020. After returning home to Northern Nevada. Very few, if any other physician has had the treatment exposure of the entire spectrum of patients with COVID from the very earliest days in a clinic in ordering the tests to holding the hand of patients in the hospital while they passed away. Often forgotten, he also continued to practice family medicine through it all out of the same clinic.
Dr. Dalton graduated from Carson High in 1995, served in the US Army in Germany from 1996-1999 and the Nevada National Guard until December 2004 departing as a Sergeant. He married his amazing wife Jennifer in 1997, with whom he has two sons, Tim and Sam. He graduated from UNR in 2002, taught at Damonte Ranch and Reno High from 2004-2006 and then departed teaching for a career change to medicine.
